MEASUREMENT technology specialist PJM and Boom Software have formed a joint venture to create a new rail testing facility at Mellach, near Graz, in southeastern Austria.
The new company, Infratrack Solutions, will take over the 4.5km line that served the former Verbund coal-fired power station at Mellach, creating a test site for innovation in the rail sector. The site is connected to the main line to Graz and key advantages include:
- electrification: the line is fully electrified and suitable for all types of vehicles, including those with heavy axleloads
- covered work area: a large hall is equipped with a roof work platform and overhead crane
- track variety: several different configurations of track are present on site, including tight curves with radius of 150m, and
- security: the site is fenced throughout and patrolled 24/7.
Infratrack says that it will focus on equipping vehicles with instrumentation, the commissioning of new rail vehicles, static, acoustic and EMC testing, optimisation of the interaction between sensor technology and software under real-world operating conditions, and the development and automation of digital processes.
“Finding modern test environments and test tracks for rail vehicles in Austria has long been a challenge, but we can now offer a solution,” says Andreas Schaller, CEO of Boom Software and managing director of Infratrack Solutions.
