São Paulo Metro (SPM) launched a construction tender for the 17.6km Line 19-Sky Blue on March 24. The new line will connect Bosque Maia in Guarulhos, in the northeast of São Paulo state, to Anhangabaú, in the centre of São Paulo city.
The contract includes the construction of 15 stations, a maintenance depot, as well as 18 emergency exit and ventilation shafts. It also includes the refurbishment of stations that will provide interchange with the new line at São Bento (Line 1-Blue) and Anhangabaú (Line 3-Red).
SPM aims to sign a contract by the end of this year, allowing work to begin in 2026. The contract will stipulate that work must be completed within six years and three months. The new line will be operated with a fleet of 31 trains and is expected to carry 630,000 passengers a day. Journey time savings of up to 1 hour are expected when the line is completed.
