QUITO Metro has signed a $US 62.1m contract for preventive and corrective maintenance of network-wide infrastructure and electromechanical and telecommunications systems with Consorcio Ferroviario Metro de Quito. The five-year deal runs to June 2031. The consortium includes Sofratesa, Rieltec Ecuador and Ripconciv Construcciones Civiles.
The award represents a saving of around $US 12m against the $US 73.9m budgeted in the tender. Under the contract, the consortium will maintain tunnels, track, workshops and depots, pumping and ventilation stations, fire control systems, and telecommunications infrastructure including telephony, intercoms, public address, radio and connectivity systems.
The contract was procured after it was confirmed that no domestic providers are able to undertake the work. Quito Metro says the agreement means all 13 subsystems required for the metro's operation now have maintenance coverage from international firms.
This is the second major maintenance award by Quito Metro's this year. Other existing maintenance contracts include agreements with Alstom for signalling on the 22.5km, 15-station Line 1 to February 2030, Siemens for network energisation to October 2029, CAF for rolling stock to October 2029, and Eommt for station operation and maintenance to November 2028.
