THE Mexican federal government has awarded contracts worth a total of Pesos 14.4bn ($US 744m) for further works on the Pesos 175.7bn project to build a 396.3km passenger line from Saltillo to Nuevo Laredo on the US border.
Government rail and integrated transport agency Attrapi has awarded a consortium of Hitachi Rail GTS Spain, Hitachi Rail GTS México, and Hitachi Rail GTS Austria a Pesos 3.9bn contract to supply signalling, telecommunications and train control systems. The contract covers design, supply, installation and commissioning.
Civil works packages recently awarded include a Pesos 13bn contract covering the 100km Unión San Javier - Arroyo El Sauz section, where work will be undertaken by Gami Ingeniería e Instalaciones, Construcciones Urales, Azvi and Recal Estructuras. A consortium of the same partners and Constructora Moyeda has been awarded a Pesos 10.4bn contract covering design and construction of a 9.2km section in the Monterrey area. Work is due to be completed within 33 months.
A consortium led by the Mexican subsidiary of Spanish civil engineering contractor Comsa has secured a Pesos 2.9bn contract to design and build four stations at Derramadero, Saltillo, Ramos Arizpe and García. The consortium also includes Regiomontana de Construcción y Servicios and Vise.
There will be a total of 10 stations on the Saltillo - Nuevo Laredo line, which will serve the states of Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, including the industrial area of Monterrey. Under the Mexican government’s programme to revive long-distance passenger services, it will eventually form the final section of the 200km/h line between Mexico City and Nuevo Laredo via Querétaro.
