Mexico awards $US 711m passenger line construction contract

Consortium will design and build 30.75km section of new Saltillo - Nuevo Laredo line.

MEXICO’s Rail Transport Regulatory Agency (ARTF) has awarded a contract worth $US 711m for the design and construction of a 30.75km section of the 393.9km Saltillo - Nuevo Laredo passenger line in the Monterrey area.

The winning bid came from a consortium led by ICA Constructora, a major Mexican civil works contractor.

ARTF has simultaneously launched a tender for the construction of an 8.85km section of the line, also in the Monterrey metropolitan area.

The tender has a reference budget of $US 108m and stipulates completion within 33 months, with 20% advance payment. The closing date for bids is February 6.
