THE Saudi capital’s Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has awarded a contract to the Arriyadh New Mobility Consortium (ANMC) to construct an 8.4km extension to the 24.2km Line 2 of the Riyadh Metro.
According to MEED, the contract is worth between $US 800m and $US 900m and ANMC includes Webuild, Italy; Larsen & Toubro, India; Nesma, Saudi Arabia; Alstom; and Hitachi STS, Italy.
In addition, Riyadh Metro Transit Consultants (RMTC), a joint venture between Parsons, United States, and Egis and Systra, France, will be responsible for project management and supervision.
The Line 2 extension will run from King Saud University (KSU), which is the line’s current southwestern terminus, via KSU Medical City to Diriyah. The extension will provide interchange with the planned Line 7, which is currently out to tender, at Diriyah Central.
Around 7km of the extension will be underground, while 3km will be elevated with five stations.
Riyadh’s six-line network currently extends to 176km with 85 stations and opened in three phases from December 2024.
