TRIAL operation without passengers has started in eastern China on Nanjing’s S2 inter-city commuter line, ahead of a planned opening to passengers in April.
The 54.2km broadly north-south line has 16 stations and runs between Xishanqiao on Nanjing metro Line 7 and Taibai in Ma’anshan.
Two other commuter lines in Nanjing are both under construction with civil works in progress. The section of Line S4 that falls within Nanjing is 5.8km long with two stations. It will extend the approximately 50km line from Chuhe in Anhui province, which opened in mid-2023, to Nanjing North station on the northern bank of the Yangtse River.
Line S5, the Nanjing - Yizheng inter-city commuter line, will connect Xianlinhu on Nanjing metro Line 4 with Yangzhou West. The 57.8km line will serve 16 stations.
