TAIYUAN, in Shanxi province, northern China, opened its second metro line on February 22. Line 1 runs for 28.7km from Helongwan in the west to Wusu Airport Terminals 1 and 2 and serves 24 stations. According to local media, 235,600 passengers were carried on the first day of public operation.
Line 1 serves the administrative districts of Wanbailin, Yingze and Xiaodian, and connects key transport hubs including Taiyuan and Taiyuan South stations on the national network and Wusu’s international airport.
The line is operated by Taiyuan Rail Transit Line 1 Construction and Operation, a joint venture between 16 companies authorised by China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) and Taiyuan Rail Transit Group.
Taiyuan’s first metro line, the 24km Line 2, which runs from Jiancaoping in the north to Xiqiao in the south and serves 23 stations, opened in December 2020.
