A groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 19 to mark the start of work on Taipei’s MRT Circular Line North Section at Shilin. The event was attended by central and local government officials, as well as Taipei mayor Chiang Wan-an.
Taipei Mass Rapid Transit Bureau says that the start of work on the 1.5km section of the Circular Line where the groundbreaking took place has been delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic and supply chain issues. It will connect Jiannan Road station with New Taipei Industrial Park station.
The bureau adds that the line will help relieve traffic congestion between New Taipei/Taipei and Shilin/Neihu. It expects the journey time between Shilin station and New Taipei Industrial Park station to be halved.
Separately, work continues on the 17km Minsheng - Xizhi Sky Blue Line that will connect the Datong and Xizhi districts, serving 15 stations.
