THE Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has awarded local contractor KTC Civil Engineering & Construction a $S 590m ($US 441.42m) contract to build station CR19 on Phase 2 of the Cross Island Line (CRL2), which has the working name of Jurong Lake District.
Construction of the underground metro station and its tunnels will involve deep excavation work near the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE), requiring prior installation of earth retaining and stabilising structures to ensure safety and ground stability.
LTA says it will work with the contractor to monitor construction work and implement any mitigation measures necessary to ensure minimum impact on nearby stakeholders and infrastructure.
Construction is expected to start in the fourth quarter of this year. CRL2 is due to open in 2032, running for 15km from Turf City to Jurong Lake District with six underground stations.
Running entirely underground, the CRL will be the eighth line of Singapore’s MRT metro network, linking major hubs such as Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi. Almost half of its stations will provide interchange with other lines.
Phase 1 of the CRL project, currently under construction, is 29km long with 12 stations, running from Aviation Park to Bright Hill, and is due for completion by 2030. Engineering studies for the CRL Phase 3 are ongoing.
