MUMBAI Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) opened two extensions to the Mumbai metro on April 8 and introduced new timetables across the network.
The new lines comprise the 5.4km Phase 1 of Line 2B from Diamond Garden to Mandale, and the new 3.6km Line 9 linking Dahisar East with Kashigaon. The latter is effectively a northern extension of Line 7 as there will be through running between the two lines. However, lines 2A and 7 will now operate separately.
Line 9 is the first metro line to serve the Thane district while Line 2B extends the metro to areas also served by the Harbour Line of the Mumbai commuter network. Line 9 connects with Line 2A at Dahisar East, while Line 2B provides interchange with the Mumbai Monorail at Diamond Garden but will remain separate from Line 2A until the central section of Line 2 is completed.
MMRDA says the revised schedules have been designed to make metro travel simpler, faster, and more predictable for commuters, with improved frequency, streamlined operations, and better network integration.
