INDONESIA’s Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, speaking at the International Conference on Infrastructure on June 11, unveiled a proposal to extend Jakarta’s north-south metro line to South Tangerang city in Banten.
The 22.6km elevated extension is estimated to cost $US 1.25bn, including land acquisition, construction and procurement of rolling stock.
The government has pledged to facilitate the project with the release of state-owned land and with other forms of non-fiscal support.
The project would involve extending the existing line, which currently runs from HI Roundabout to Lebak Bulus, south via Ciputat and Gaplek to Pondok Cabe. The extension would have 12 stations.
The extension is expected to carry around 204,000 passengers per day by 2030.
The initial section of Jakarta’s north-south metro line opened in 2019, and the line is currently being extended north from HI Roundabout to Kota.
