A groundbreaking ceremony was held on June 26 to launch construction of the $NT 161.5bn ($US 5.6bn) Blue metro line in Taichung, Taiwan.
The city’s second metro line is due to open in 2034 and will run for 24.8km from Taichung Port in the west to the east of the city, via Shalu station, Providence University, Taichung City Hall, and Taichung station. It will have eight elevated and 12 underground stations, and will provide interchange with the 16.7km Green Line.
According to local media outlet Focus Taiwan, Taichung mayor Lu Shiow-yen, says the city will now work on all seven planned metro lines concurrently to accelerate completion of the entire network.
