EXO, which runs the commuter rail network in Montreal, Canada, has awarded a 10-year operations and maintenance contract to Transdev, with an option to extend the contract for four years.
Transdev has been given a one-year mobilisation period starting on July 1 and will take over from Alstom on July 1 2027. The former Metropolitan Transport Agency (AMT) awarded an eight-year operations and maintenance contract, with a two-year extension option, to Bombardier Transportation (now Alstom) in 2016.
Exo tendered the contract in December 2024. Negotiations were conducted through a single-envelope weighted bidding system, based on both quantitative and qualitative criteria, that included structured discussions with bidders.
The 225km commuter network comprises five lines and 52 stations, and has connections to the Montreal metro and REM automated light metro. The commuter network carried more than 7 million passengers in 2024.
