WABTEC has finalised its €675m acquisition of Frauscher Sensor Technology Group, strengthening its position in the global railway signalling and digital intelligence market.
The deal, announced in July and completed on December 1, adds Frauscher’s portfolio of train detection, axle-counting and wayside object control systems to Wabtec’s existing digital platform, a move the company says will accelerate growth and broaden its international reach.
Founded in Austria in 1987, Frauscher employs more than 700 staff across 15 countries and has installed its products in over 100 countries. Its strong presence in Europe and India is expected to support Wabtec’s efforts to expand in these high-growth regions.
Wabtec president and CEO Rafael Santana described the transaction as an important step in the group’s long-term strategy. “The rare combination of our digital intelligence portfolio and Frauscher’s industry-leading suite of products opens opportunities in a high-potential market for sustained growth,” he says.
Nalin Jain, president of Wabtec’s digital intelligence business, added that the integration would help operators improve efficiency, reliability and safety amid increasing global transport demand.
Wabtec expects the acquisition to deliver immediate shareholder value, with accretive adjusted Ebit margins and slightly accretive adjusted earnings per share in the first year. Frauscher is forecast to generate around €145m in revenue in 2025, while Wabtec anticipates achieving run-rate cost synergies within three years.
