SIGNALLING equipment supplier Frauscher Sensor Technology has started work on a new production facility in Mysore, India. Due for completion in October 2026, it will incorporate a localised research and development hub that will provide tailored products for Indian Railways (IR).
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new plant was held on August 7, attended by representatives from IR, regional authorities, and industry partners.
The two-storey facility will cover 14,400m2, with sensor and board production located on the ground floor. As well as office space and research and development facilities, the first floor will accommodate a dedicated facility for external training programmes, enabling customers to gain hands-on experience with Frauscher products.
Frauscher says that the new plant will strengthen the company’s position in the growing Indian market, and expand its capabilities to serve Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and other emerging international markets. It also forms part of Frauscher’s global strategy to build a more resilient and responsive supply chain, according to the company.
Wabtec has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Frauscher in deal which values the Austrian company at €675m that was announced last month. Wabtec says that Frauscher’s significant presence in Europe and India will further strengthen its international growth strategy in these major markets.
The new factory in Mysore has been designed to be sustainable in the long term, featuring 100% wastewater recycling, rainwater harvesting, and groundwater recharge via percolation pits. Rooftop solar panels will provide clean energy.
