Germany to proceed with VAT reduction following government agreement

GERMANY’s planned reduction in VAT charged on fares for journeys longer than 50km from 19% to 7% will go ahead from January 1 2020 following an agreement between the federal government and committees representing both chambers of the German Parliament.

ISRAEL officially launched the introduction of electric train operation on the A1 link between Tel-Aviv Hahagana and Jerusalem Navon on December 18 ahead of the start of the full service on December 21. This follows several weeks of test running.

Abellio refused three-year extension to ScotRail franchise

ABELLIO's ScotRail contract is to be terminated in 2022 and it will not be granted a three year extension, Scottish transport secretary, Mr Michael Matheson, confirmed on December 18.

RegioJet begins operation of first contract services in Czech Republic

CZECH passenger operator RegioJet began operation of its first contracted regional services on December 15. While RegioJet has operated tendered services in Slovakia between Bratislava and Kormoran for several years, it has not previously won contracts in the Czech Republic.
