IRJ IN-BRIEF – Fleet: MÁV and Ganz Motor develop new powered bogies; Baku receives new metro trains; CD announces coach upgrade
Hungary: Hungarian State Railways (MÁV) has partnered with Ganz Motor to develop and produce powered bogies for the operator’s new MÁV IC+ control coach, which will be capable of reaching speeds of up to 200km/h. The new coaches will include a driver’s cab, as well as space for 56 seats, and will be built to comply with European standards.

Munich orders 22 more Siemens metro trains
MUNICH City Utilities (SWM) has exercised an option with Siemens for an additional 22 six-car C2 metro trains, for operation by its subsidiary Munich Transport (MVG). The new trains will enter service in 2022 for operation on the city’s U3 and U6 metro lines.

DB introduces shorter, refurbished ICE 1 trains
GERMAN Rail (DB) began use of its 48 newly-refurbished and shortened ICE 1 trains on the Hamburg - Frankfurt route in mid-June. Plans for the €320m refurbishment were announced in 2018 and will enable DB to use the trains for another decade, with the option to refurbish an additional 10 sets.
