EGIS has been appointed as the site supervision consultant for the project to construct a 3.6km monorail in the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) of the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh.

The construction contract for the project was awarded to CRRC (Hong Kong), CRRC Nanjing Puzhen and local firm Hassan Allam Construction Saudi (HACS) in October 2024. The consortium appointed Ricardo as integrated delivery partner in May.

Among its tasks, Egis will supervise rolling stock, rail systems and civil and structural works, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, architecture, utilities and landscaping. In addition, Egis will review and approve shop drawings, method statements, and material submittals, while overseeing compliance and quality control processes throughout the project's construction phase.

The circular monorail line will be operated with six trains, calling at six stations located to serve key areas of KAFD. This is a mixed-use development covering 1.6 million mand comprising 95 new buildings that will provide office space, residential accommodation and commercial and retail areas, as well as hospitality and entertainment venues.

Providing interchange with Line 1 of the Riyadh metro, the monorail is expected to carry up to 3500 passengers per hour at peak times. It is expected to open in 2027.
