THE Northern Metropolis Railways Office and the Highways Department of the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) have awarded a joint venture of AtkinsRéalis and Aecom a contract to provide investigation, design and multidisciplinary services for the Hong Kong - Shenzhen Western Rail Link (HSWRL) project.
The value of the contract was not disclosed.
Announced in 2021 and one of the key railway projects in the Northern Metropolis Development Strategy, the HSWRL will run for 18.1km from Hung Shui Kiu in Hong Kong to Qianhai in the Chinese mainland city of Shenzhen, including 10.8km within Shenzhen, and will enable an end-to-end journey time of only 15 minutes.
The consultancy contract covers the 7.3km section of HSWRL within Hong Kong, running from Hung Shui Kiu northwards to the border with Shenzhen. New stations will be built at Hung Shui Kiu, Ha Tsuen and Lau Fau Shan.
Work to be undertaken by joint venture leader AtkinsRéalis and its partner Aecom will also include consultancy support for building a new depot on a 19ha site at Ha Tsuen, enabling work for potential development above the new railway, and provision for future connections to the planned Hong Kong Island West - Hung Shui Kiu Rail Link.
