THE China Academy of Railway Sciences (CARS) has announced to domestic media that two prototype CR450 high-speed trains achieved a world record passing speed of 896km/h during recent trials.
The record speed was recorded on a section of the yet-to-open Wuhan - Yichang section of the Chengdu - Shanghai high-speed line. The trains broke the previous passing speed record by 5km/h, which was set by the same train type in 2023. The maximum speed achieved by the individual trains was 453km/h, as per the current record for a high-speed train operating in China.
CR450 trains have been tested on a handful of high-speed lines since April this year, including the new Chongqing - Qianjiang section of the Chongqing - Xiamen high-speed line, and the Shenyang - Jiaozuo - Baotou high-speed line.
The trains must complete 600,000km of test running before entering revenue service.
