AFGHANISTAN’s Ministry of Public Works has signed a contract worth $US 3.6m for a survey and design work for the proposed 735.5km new line between Herat and Kandahar.
According to the Xinhua news agency, government officials expect the work to be completed within eight months. The proposed new line would connect the western province of Herat to the southern province of Kandahar.
The Afghan caretaker government that assumed power in 2021 has prioritised rebuilding infrastructure following years of conflict in the region.
