SINGAPORE’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) opened the final section of its Circle Line on July 12, closing the 4km gap between HarbourFront and Marina Bay stations.
The new section on the south side of the Circle Line adds three new stations at Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward Road. The completed Circle Line is 39km long with 33 stations, 12 of which are interchange stations connecting to all existing metro lines: the North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL), North East Line (NEL), Downtown Line (DTL) and Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL).
LTA purchased a fleet of 23 three-car driverless trains from Alstom to cater for the expected increase in passenger volume with the completion of the line. LTA says the first batch of new Circle Line trains reached Singapore in March 2022 and have been progressively put into service from April this year.
