A consortium led by Aldesa has secured a $US 173m contract to design and build operational infrastructure for the under-construction Querétaro - Irapuato passenger line in central Mexico.
The contract covers the construction of refuelling stations, workshops, depots and a maintenance base that will support operation of the line. The award marks further progress on the project following the selection of a consortium led by Mota‑Engil in November 2025 to deliver the line’s first major civil works contract.
Aldesa will work alongside its affiliates Aldesem, Proacon and Coalvi, together with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and the Mexican contractor Jaguar. A Spanish construction company, Aldesa is now controlled by the Chinese state-owned infrastructure group China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) after it acquired a majority stake.
The contract was awarded by Attrapi, a new federal body formally established in January by the Mexican government to coordinate the planning, development and construction of passenger rail projects.
The Querétaro - Irapuato project involves construction of a 108km double-track line designed for operation at up to 200km/h, linking key cities in the Bajío industrial region. The project is budgeted at $US 6.7bn, and is part of the Mexican government’s strategy to restore inter-city passenger services and expand the national network.
