IRJ at IAF 2025: Linsinger is showcasing LINalyzer to Go, a prototype lightweight mobile rail diagnostics trolley system, at the outside track area at this week’s event in Münster, Germany.
Up to nine measuring modules are integrated into the new device: transverse profile, longitudinal profile, crack depth, railhead height, surface quality index, track gauge, acoustic roughness, superelevation and anomaly detection. All of these parameters are already measured on existing Linsinger machines but this is the first time that they have been adapted and integrated into a mobile diagnostics trolley, expanding the supplier’s diagnostics offer.
All measurements are conducted continuously and simultaneously on both rails, with all data processed by the central LINalyzer software system. This data is displayed on a laptop connected to the device, which provides an overview of track condition pre and post process in a simple to use format. A tile traffic light indicator system shows the health of a specific section of track and is adaptable to parameters ranging from 100m down to a single metre, enabling the operator to identify the precise area of the rail where a defect or anomaly is present, helping to inform maintenance decisions.
The trolley is made from specialist plastic, and at around 25kg is extremely lightweight, making it easily transferrable to any section of track. It is also intended for operation by single person, unlike heavier trolleys which can require up to three people. The device’s battery has an 8-hour life and the system can be set up and working within 5 minutes of arriving trackside.
The prototype is the result of 18 months of development work and Linsinger says it will work with German infrastructure manager DB InfraGO to secure certification, which is likely by the end of 2025. It is targeting customers which do not possess large track measurement and diagnostics trains or machines, with the system suitable for both mainline and transit applications, and adaptable to different gauges.
