PAKISTAN’s Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided, during a meeting chaired by CDA chairman and Islamabad chief commissioner, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, to conduct a feasibility study to build two light rail lines in the capital Islamabad.
The study will be undertaken by Pakistan’s National University of Sciences and Technology and should be completed within three months.
One line would run from Lake View Park southwest via the city centre to Islamabad International Airport, while the second line would run from Lake View Park southeast via Rawalpindi to Rawat.
Lake View Park could be the starting point of the proposed Murree Glass Train monorail project.
The environmentally friendly project will be integrated with the existing e-bus network in Islamabad.
The CDA chairman directed that the system should be fully digital and cashless. He instructed that the acquisition of carbon credits should be ensured during the planning phase.
