CENTRAL Communication Port (CPK), the company delivering Poland’s new hub airport and associated rail projects, has launched a tender for a contract to undertake detailed design and construction of the first section of the 350km/h Warsaw - Łódź high-speed line, running for 12.9km from Kotowice to the airport.
Under the first phase of what CPK says is the first competitive dialogue procedure to be conducted in Central and Eastern Europe for awarding a high-speed construction contract, applications to participate must be submitted by March 2. A maximum of six bidders will be invited to participate in the second phase.
CPK says that bidders will be selected on the basis of their experience in construction projects, including in Poland. The criteria for evaluating bids will be price and the length of the warranty period.
With outline design nearing completion, CPK has submitted 10 of the 12 applications for planning permission for the 120km Warsaw - Łódź high-speed line. Permission was granted for the first section near Warsaw West in December, when CPK launched tendering for a contract to undertake archaeological surveys along the new line.
Later this year CPK plans to tender civils works contracts for the following sections of the Warsaw - Łódź high-speed line:
- Warsaw West - Kotowice (18km)
- Airport Junction - Bolimów Junction (15km)
- Bolimów Junction (12km)
- Bolimów Junction - Brzeziny (37km), and
- Brzeziny - Łódź (11km).
Also to be tendered in 2026 are two contracts for the entire Warsaw - Łódź line, respectively covering the supply of signalling and telecommunications systems, and electrification and traction power supply.
“From a transport perspective, this investment will bring Poland into the premier league of the world’s developed rail nations,” says Piotr Rachwalski, CPK management board member responsible for rail.
