MOROCCAN National Railways (ONCF) has awarded a project management contract for the planned high-speed line between Kénitra and Marrakech to a Franco-Moroccan consortium led by Egis, working alongside Systra and Novec.
The project will extend the existing 183km Tangier - Kenitra high-speed line to a total of 430km, serving the capital Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech. The project will also include quadrupling 130km of conventional lines around Casablanca and the development of new stations.
The consortium will be responsible for project management, operational master planning, and technical refinement. The partners will support ONCF through all phases of the project, from awarding contracts and civil engineering through to testing and approval.
The project is part of the Rail Morocco 2040 Plan and completion is anticipated by the end of 2029, ahead of the 2030 Fifa World Cup, which is Morocco is jointly hosting with Spain and Portugal.
The consortium partners previously worked on the Tangier - Kénitra high-speed line project, which was completed in 2018. ONCF’s Al Boraq high-speed services currently continue on conventional mainline infrastructure to Rabat and Casablanca.
