AGUSTÍN Escobar, CEO of rail infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, his wife, their three children and the pilot, were tragically killed in a helicopter accident in New York City on April 10. The helicopter plunged into the Hudson River during a sightseeing tour of the city, killing all onboard.
Escobar worked for Siemens for more than 27 years. He began his career as the head of sales and project management for power automation systems in Madrid in 1998, and steadily progressed to management roles in New York and Bogotá, Colombia, and to senior management positions, including CEO of southwest Europe at Siemens Mobility and CEO of Siemens Spain. He was appointed CEO of rail infrastructure in October 2024, and attended a recent press event in Oslo to present Siemens’ work on the country’s ETCS project.
Escobar’s wife, Mercè Camprubí Montal, also worked for Siemens as global commercialisation manager at Siemens Energy.
A Siemens spokesperson expressed the company’s shock at the news. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic helicopter crash in which Agustín Escobar and his family lost their lives,” they said. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to all their loved ones.”
