CANADIAN engineering company SNC-Lavalin Group announced on July 22 that it is exiting lump-sum turnkey contracting and will reorganise its Resources (Oil & Gas and Mining & Metallurgy) and Infrastructure Construction segments into a separate business line following their continued poor performance.

Genesee & Wyoming low-emissions locomotive tests completed
UNITED States regional and short line railway operator Genesee & Wyoming (G&W) has completed trials with two new United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4-compliant low-emission locomotives, which have now entered service with its subsidiary California Northern Railroad Company (CFNR).

AUSTRIAN open access operator Westbahn has announced it is selling its fleet of seven Kiss and 10 Kiss2 double-deck EMUs to German Rail (DB), which it will replace with 15 new six-car Kiss3 sets from Stadler.

Report confirms Britain can meet 2040 diesel-free-train target
THE final report by Britain’s Rail Industry Decarbonisation Task Force and railway safety authority RSSB confirms that Britain’s railway industry can eliminate diesel-only passenger trains by 2040 and contribute to the government’s net zero carbon target by 2050.

Passenger trains return to Bragado
ARGENTINA’s national operator Argentinean Trains (TA) has re-launched passenger services along the 208km line between Buenos Aires and Bragado four years after they were suspended following serious weather damage to several bridges and track at the western end of the route in August 2015.
