INTERNATIONAL Railway Journal is seeking nominations for its fourth annual Women in Rail Award. The winning candidates will be profiled in the June edition of the magazine and in special articles on railjournal.com throughout the month of June.

While the railway sector continues to suffer from a gender imbalance in its workforce, there is a growing cohort of women who are bucking this trend and rising to influential positions in their respective organisations. IRJ’s Women in Rail Award is an opportunity to celebrate the careers of these women, and to bring their achievements to the attention of the wider industry.

“Many railways and other businesses within the industry are working hard to improve the gender balance across their organisations as they recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce offers,” says IRJ editor-in-chief, Kevin Smith.

“We see the award as a way of celebrating the success of some of the industry’s most influential and important female leaders and I invite as many of them as possible to get involved.”

The winners will be selected for demonstrating exceptional leadership as well as professional capability. There is no age limit, and women from across the railway sector, from CEOs and project leaders to drivers and technology pioneers, are encouraged to apply. Past winners include the CEO of Spanish infrastructure manager Adif, the heads of regional associations, a driver for British operator Freightliner, leaders within the international division of Korail, and leading consultants on Australian and African rail projects.
