IRJ at IAF 2025: Towering above the outdoor area at IAF are railway access platforms developed by Italian supplier Platform Basket, including its latest, the RR 11T, which is being displayed for the first time.
The 10.5m-tall platform has a carrying capacity of up to 230kg and can accommodate two people in the platform. The unit weighs 3.5 tonnes and is transportable using a light pickup truck or van. Once on the track it uses a self-propelled platform to operate at up to 10km/h.
Another key feature is the caterpillar tracks which can rotate through 90o to enable the platform to easily access and leave the railway. The platform is powered by a 10.5kW diesel engine but it can be equipped with lithium-ion batteries on request for deployment in tunnels and on underground metro lines. The transmission is split between both the rail wheels and the caterpillar tracks.
The platform is expected to be used to support maintenance of building roofs and to provide access via the railway for light maintenance work including to signage, lighting and general power lines.
