Kuala Lumpur Airport replacement peoplemover to open on July 1

Alstom has supplied three trains and CBTC for a replacement automated peoplemover at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Alstom handed over the peoplemover to Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad (MAHB) on June 23.

A replacement automated peoplemover (APM) will open at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on July 1. The project was led by Alstom in partnership with a Malaysian joint venture between IJM Construction and Pestech Technology.

Alstom has supplied three Innovia APM R trains, which underwent testing by Malaysia’s Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) between January and June. The trains, which are fitted with an advanced condition monitoring system to prevent faults, can carry up to 270 passengers.

The peoplemover is controlled by Alstom’s newly upgraded Urbalis Flo (formerly known as CityFlo 650) communications-based train control (CBTC) system.
