Voppen, who joined Prorail in 2005 and was previously the company’s COO, became acting CEO after Mr Pier Eringa resigned to become CEO of Transdev Netherlands on September 1.

Dutch minister of infrastructure, Mrs Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, informed the Dutch Parliament of Voppen’s appointment on November 27.

Major tasks ahead for Voppen, who will officially start on December 1, include increasing the capacity and reliability of the Dutch network, and transforming Prorail from a state-owned legal entity under Dutch civil law into a government agency.

Voppen will be joined on the board of directors by Mr Hans van Leeuwen as CFO, while Mrs Ans Rietstraa, who was previously director for projects, has been appointed to replace Voppen as COO.
