INFRASTRUCTURE manager HŽ Infrastructure has selected Afcons Infrastructure of India as preferred bidder for the contract to undertake what HŽ describes as the largest railway project in the history of Croatia, a comprehensive upgrade of the 83km Dugo Selo - Novska line that includes laying a second track.
HŽ Infrastructure says that the bid of €677.05m from Afcons was selected as the most economically advantageous. Once the contract is signed, work is expected to take five years and 10 months to complete.
The maximum speed on the Dugo Selo - Novska line will be raised to 160km/h, with the existing track to be completely rebuilt and a second track laid alongside it. The project also includes the reconstruction of stations, elimination of most level crossings, and installation of noise barriers.
New signalling and traction power supply equipment will be installed. Work is being co-financed by the European Union (EU), as the Dugo Selo - Novska line forms part of the Trans-European Transport Network’s (TEN-T) Mediterranean Corridor.
