CHILEAN private railway concessionaire Transportes Andrés Pirazzoli (Transap) has agreed a contract with Wabtec for the supply of four C30ACi diesel locomotives.

Tranasp, which provides rail freight services across the Chilean State Railways (EFE) network, will use the locomotives to fulfil a long-term contract with Arauco, a global manufacturer of forestry products.

The C30ACi locomotives will be the first ac units to join Transap’s fleet. Wabtec says the locomotives are designed to operate on the sharp curves and tight clearances found on the EFE network. In addition, the manufacturer says the ac locomotives’ individual-axle traction-control technology is able to maximise tractive effort and improve hauling capacity, enabling a C30ACi to do the work of two equivalent dc locomotives.

Wabtec is expected to deliver the locomotives in 2026.

“This order is a critical step for Transap as we position our locomotive fleet to meet the growing needs of our customers and the country,” says Eric Lobo, Transap’s chief executive. “The addition of these new locomotives aligns with our vision of providing efficient, safe, and sustainable rail service for our customers.”
