TRINITY Metro, the operator of the TexRail Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport service, has signed a contract with Stadler for the supply of an additional four Flirt DMUs to join the existing fleet of eight four-car trains.
The additional trains will enable TexRail to increase the frequency of its midday service to 30-minute intervals. Delivery of the new fleet is expected in 2027 with manufacturing set to take place at Stadler’s plant in Salt Lake City.
The 43.5km line connects Fort Worth city centre with Grapevine and Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Airport Terminal B, serving 10 stations. It has carried more than 3 million passengers since opening in 2019. A 3.4km extension from Fort Worth T&P station to a park-and-ride facility in the city’s Medical District is scheduled to open in spring 2026.
“Demand for TEXRail continues to rise, and these new train sets will enable us to maintain high service standards while accommodating more riders,” says Mr Reed Lanham, vice-president of rail for Trinity Metro. “With the recent service enhancements and the upcoming extension to the Medical District, we’re focused on providing an exceptional experience for our customers.”
