UZBEKISTAN Railways (UTY) has awarded Talgo a 10-year contract to maintain its fleet of six Talgo 250 trains supplied by the Spanish rolling stock manufacturer. Talgo says that the contract is worth nearly €80m.
UTY operates the Talgo fleet at up to 230km/h on its 1520mm-gauge network, although it is designed for a maximum speed of 275km/h. The Talgo 250 is similar to the 1668mm-gauge class 130 and 730 high-speed trains branded as Alvia by Spanish national operator Renfe, and features Talgo passive tilt technology.
Ordered by UTY in 2009, the first two nine-car Talgo 250 trains entered service in 2011. That year a second contract was signed for the supply of two 11-car trains, which entered service with UTY in 2017. In 2019 Talgo received an order for two 11-car trains, which entered service in 2021, as well as an order for four additional cars to lengthen to 11 cars the first two Talgo 250 trains ordered by UTY.
