SIEMENS Mobility and its consortium partners Bozankaya, Turkey, and ST Engineering Urban Solutions have won a turnkey contract to supply 53 trains for the Bangkok metro Orange and Blue lines, together with signalling and maintenance services.
The 35.9km Orange Line is under construction and the consortium will supply 32 three-car trains, along with signalling, communications, platform screen doors, and passenger information systems. Siemens Mobility has also been awarded a long-term maintenance contract for the Orange Line.
Bangkok Blue Line
Siemens Mobility will supply an additional 21 three-car trains as part of the project to upgrade 48km Blue Line. The contract includes upgrading the line’s signalling and Scada systems. Siemens will also maintain the new trains and the signalling, communications, platform screen doors and power supply.
Mainline contract
Siemens will install signalling on the new double-track main line which is under construction from Den Chai, on the Bangkok - Chiang Mai line, via Chiang Rai to Chiang Khong on the border with Laos. The project comprises two segments: the 132km stretch from Ngao to Chiang Rai with 11 stations; and the 87km section from Chiang Rai to Chiang Khong, with seven stations.
Siemens will provide Centralised Traffic Control (CTC) and an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system that complies with ETCS Level 1 standards. The contract includes the supply of a Trackguard Westrace MKII interlocking, a Controlguide Rail 9000 CTC/LCP system, ETCS Level 1, point machines, dc track circuits, and Clearguard ACM250 axle counters.
