INDIAN engineering firm TKIL Industries, formerly Thyssenkrupp Industries India, and German battery manufacturer Hoppecke Batterie Systeme have announced a strategic partnership to jointly develop advanced battery systems for India’s rail sector.
This will include the joint development, production and integration of high-performance battery systems tailored to Indian requirements, including for metros, regional trains, and locomotives.
The agreement brings together TKIL’s experience in engineering, manufacturing, and project delivery and Hoppecke’s expertise in industrial energy storage.
“India is a strategically important growth market for sustainable mobility solutions,” says Dr Marc Zoellner, CEO of Hoppecke. “Partnering with TKIL allows us to create real added value on the railways through our battery systems.”
Vivek Bhatia, CEO of TKIL Industries, described the partnership as a “strategic milestone” in supporting India’s transition to cleaner transport. “Together, we aim to accelerate the electrification of India’s mobility market,” he says.
The partners report that discussions with prospective customers have already begun, and the first joint projects are expected to be implemented later this year. The partners also plan to target future local maintenance contracts.
