TRACK machine supplier Plasser & Theurer held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new assembly and commissioning facility in Linz, Austria, on September 11. With an estimated construction cost of over €60m that will be privately funded it is the largest single investment in Austria related to the company in its more than 70-year history.
When the new factory is ready to start work in early 2027, both final assembly and commissioning of track construction and maintenance machines will be carried out in the 12,000m2 building. There will be 15 final assembly stations for machines, each with an area of 8.5m by 30m. Three tracks, each 91m long, and one 56m track are planned for commissioning.
Plasser & Theurer says it is creating modern infrastructure to assemble and commission track machines to the highest standards. The new building will have a combined photovoltaic and green roof to maximise energy efficiency and minimise environmental impact. The green roof has a temperature-equalizing effect through thermal insulation, reducing energy consumption for heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning, while also improving air quality.
