BRITISH infrastructure manager Network Rail (NR) has awarded four contracts under the framework agreement covering civil engineering work in Scotland over the five years of the regulatory Control Period 7 (CP7), which began on April 1.
Three contracts cover work on buildings, structures, earthworks, drainage, renewals and enhancement projects across Scotland worth up to £1.3bn. The selected contractors and contract values are as follows:
- Lot A minor civils: Taziker Industrial (£150m)
- Lot B buildings and civils: AmcoGiffen and Story (£730m), and
- Lot C geotechnical and minor civils: QTS (£420m).
NR has also awarded VolkerRail its first ever major contract in Scotland, covering signalling, power and communications work worth up to £150m.
All contracts have a five-year term, and a three-year extension option that may be exercised according to contractor performance.
Under the Lot A contract, Taziker Industrial will deliver general renewal projects including preventative structural repairs and culvert renewals. It is due to complete metalwork repairs and scour protection work at Findhorn Viaduct on the Aberdeen - Inverness line in 2027.
AmcoGiffen and Story will deliver major renewal works on structures, including tunnels, underbridges and coastal defences under Lot B. AmcoGiffen will assess and repair 6km of coastal defences on the Firth of Forth between Kincardine and Torryburn.
Also under Lot B, Story carrying out a scour protection programme on Fillan Viaduct north of Crianlarich station on the West Highland Line.
QTS will complete geotechnical work as well as drainage renewal and refurbishment to improve asset condition and combat the impact of climate change.
Work under Lot C will also include completing earthworks and track drainage improvements near Cumbernauld, as well as upgrading on-track and off-track drainage near Falkirk.
