MERMEC has agreed to sell its global diagnostics and data analytics activities and Italian wayside signalling business to Siemens Mobility. The value of the deal, which is expected to be concluded by the end of this year, has not been disclosed.
Around 1700 MerMec employees, sites, and industrial capabilities will transfer to Siemens, including the key strategic asset of the Ferrosud site in Matera, Italy. Siemens says it expects to achieve synergies from cross-selling and expanding the integrated portfolio.
The company says that the integration of its expertise in urban signalling with MerMec’s strong presence in its home mainline infrastructure market will support the modernisation and digitalisation of the Italian national rail network.
The acquisition will combine Siemens’ asset intelligence and diagnostics capabilities, both onboard and depot-based, with MerMec’s portfolio of infrastructure inspection vehicles. “The result will be a scalable diagnostics and analytics platform with global reach through Siemens’ worldwide footprint and established customer base,” Siemens says.

The transaction does not include AngelStar, Compagnie des Signaux and MerMec Deutschland, which will form Angel Signalling under the continuing ownership of Angelo Holding.
