THE European Commission (EC) has issued a call for proposals for €1.1bn of grant funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the final tranche under the current Mult-Year Financial Framework, which will run until 2027.
The EC says selected projects will focus on new additions and upgrades to infrastructure on the European Union’s (EU) TEN-T network, specifically contributing to the EU’s plan to connect the continent by high-speed rail and projects identified in the EU's military mobility package.
This is not a closed shop for rail. CEF funding will also be allocated to maritime projects as well as the electrification of road haulage and airport ground operations, the deployment of charging infrastructure in maritime and inland ports, as well as the digitalisation of road transport.
“Projects selected under the 2026 call will help deliver smarter, more efficient and sustainable transport infrastructure, improve interoperability, and strengthen the resilience of the transport network across the EU,” the EC says. “The 2026 call places particular emphasis on rail, inland waterways, and military mobility.”
The deadline for submissions is October 6.
