THE European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is considering a €30m loan for reconstruction of the 33.5km Durrës - Rrogozhinë line in Albania.
This line forms part of the European Union’s (EU) Pan-European Corridor VIII, which links the port of Durrës with North Macedonia and Bulgaria's Black Sea ports. Corridor VIII is part of the Western Balkans Core Network and an important part of the Trans European Transport Networks (TEN-T) in the region.
EBRD says the project’s objectives include enhancing Albania’s connectivity and regional integration, along with development of sustainable transport through modal shift.
The project, due for completion in 2028, will be co-financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the EU through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF). Earlier this year the EU approved an investment package for the project worth €120.5m.
