ARRIVA has announced it has completed the acquisition of British firm RTS Infrastructure. The deal significantly expands the group’s rolling stock maintenance and depot business and also enables it to enter the British rail infrastructure construction market for the first time. The value of the transaction was not disclosed.

RTS Infrastructure is based in Leeds and delivers rail depot servicing and infrastructure work such as platform upgrades and track work across the British rail network. Clients include infrastructure manager Network Rail, passenger operators and original equipment manufacturers. The company holds a Network Rail Principal Contractor Licence, which Arriva says provides it with new capabilities, enabling the provision of additional services to new and existing clients.

The deal also includes the lease of a depot near Leeds that will expand Arriva’s rolling stock maintenance and servicing business.

Previously a subsidiary of German Rail (DB), Arriva was sold to global infrastructure investment manager I Squared in June 2024. It has two businesses units in Britain, UK Trains and UK Bus, and is also active in 10 European countries.

“RTS Infrastructure not only strengthens our depot capacity, but brings valuable construction and infrastructure capability in-house and enhances our competitiveness in the rail sector,” says Amanda Furlong, managing director of Arriva UK Trains.

“This deal is crucial to our strategy to diversify in the UK rail market.”
