Kenyan court quashes mandatory use of SGR for freight
KENYA’s High Court has dealt Kenya Railways Corporation’s (KRC) rail freight business a major blow after quashing an earlier government directive requiring the transport of all imported containers on the 578.8km standard gauge railway (SGR) between Mombasa and Nairobi.

Egypt commissions signalling upgrades on three lines
EGYPTIAN National Railways (ENR) has commissioned updated signalling systems on seven interlockings on three main lines in the past six months, following upgrades by Thales.

KENYA Railway Corporation (KRC) began operation of five metre-gauge class 61 DMUs on the Nairobi Commuter Network (NCR) on November 10, following a ceremony at Nairobi Central station attended by Kenyan president, Mr Uhuru Kenyatta.

Germany: DB Regio will begin operating services in the state of Bavaria using six Škoda double-deck push-pull trains from November 12. Following testing on the Munich - Ingolstadt -Treuchtlingen line that is due to begin on November 16, they will enter service from December 13 on Nuremberg - Munich Express regional services.

Casablanca orders Alstom LRVs for Line 3 and 4
CASA Transport, which operates public transport in Casablanca, Morocco, has awarded a €130m contract to Alstom for the supply of up to 88 Citadis X05 LRVs for operation on the city’s new line 3 and 4 light rail routes.
