MBTA commits to major commuter rail upgrades
THE Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA) Fiscal and Management Control Board unanimously passed five resolutions on November 4, launching a process to upgrade Boston’s 610km commuter rail network to something more akin to an electrified metro, with a price tag of up to $US 28.9bn.

Hyundai Rotem ships out first Korail EMU-250
HYUNDAI Rotem has shipped the first 260km/h EMU-250 high-speed train from its Changwon plant to Korean national operator Korail, which ordered 114 high-speed EMUs to operate on new and upgraded lines across the country.

Nigeria signs $US 3.9bn contract with China for Abuja - Warri line
THE Nigerian government has signed a $US 3.9bn contract with China Railway Construction Company International (CRCCI) for the construction of a line connecting Abuja, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with Itakpe and Warri in the south.
