China adds 2254km to its rail network as nine new lines open

CHINA added 1372km to its high-speed network at the end of December with the opening of four new lines, bringing the country a step closer to completing its ambitious ‘Four Vertical and Four Horizontal’ high-speed system. Five conventional lines totalling 1182km also opened in the final week of December.

India opens Brahmaputra road-rail bridge

INDIA’s prime minister Mr Narendra Modi officially opened the 4.94km Bogibeel road-rail bridge on December 25 which crosses the Brahmaputra river and plugs a gap in the Northeast Frontier Railway network in Assam between Dibrugarh with Dhemaji.

THE board of the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) approved a business case for a daily commuter service between Hamilton and Auckland on December 19, paving the way for a five-year trial to launch in March 2020.

BOB signs contract with Alstom for Coradia Lint DMUs

BAVARIAN Overland Railway (BOB) signed a contract with Alstom on December 19 to supply 25 Coradia Lint DMUs, which will operate on the Munich - Holzkirchen - Lenggries, Munich - Holzkirchen - Tegernsee, and Munich - Holzkirchen - Bayrischzell lines from mid-2020.
