Ceneri Base Tunnel set for December opening
THE 15.4km Ceneri Base Tunnel under the Swiss Alps is due to be handed over to Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) on September 4, 14 years after construction started, with operation due to begin by the end of the year.

ULAANBAATAR Railway (UBTZ) has completed construction of the first 50km of the 414.6km Talvin Tolgoi - Zumbayan 1520mm-gauge railway with a ceremony held to mark the occasion attended by Mongolian prime minister, Mr Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh.

Adif reports losses for first half of 2020
SPANISH infrastructure manager Adif has reported a net loss of €325.2m for the first six months of 2020, more than doubling its previous loss of €134.05m for the same period in 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Thailand launches high-speed line feasibility study
STATE Railway of Thailand (SRT) has begun a feasibility study for the 190km Baht 101.7bn ($US 3.2bn) Rayong - Chanthaburi - Trat eastern Phase II section of its high-speed rail project. Work on the study is expected to be completed next month and will be submitted to the Thai cabinet next year.
